Our story
Home/Our story
The ancestral home of the Glynne and Wynn(e) family, who trace their ancestry back to a mythical character named Cilmyn Troed Ddu, who settled near to the River Llifon in the 9th century
Built in the 1830s, the park has a colourful and intriguing past as it has changed ownership, been divided, left to go into disrepair and then been restored once again. Here’s a snapshot of our story…
The house
A grade I listed building formerly belonging to Lord Newborough that once held the ball of the investiture of The Prince of Wales, now King Charles III.
The Plas, or manor house, and it’s 16 acres of gardens are privately owned and sit within the expansive Parc Glynllifon grounds. As you explore the park you’ll see the Plas from multiple angles but perhaps our favourite is from the water fountain where you can enjoy a picnic on the lawns that stretch all the way from the cascading waterfalls to the house itself.
The gardens
We encourage you to explore the many rare species of trees and plants, many over 150 years old, as you wander along the 8 miles of paths. Touch the giant redwoods, enjoy the sound of birds chirping and the stream flowing. See if you can spot the wooden carved animals as you go!
The steam engine
One of the oldest steam engine in the UK to have remained in situ. A beautiful piece of craftsmanship, restored by Fred Dibnah, you can catch a glimpse of it in action when we fire it up throughout the year. Get in touch for more details or follow us on social media to hear about when it’s going to be running.
